Oh yellow and gray how I love thee

17 Jul

Anyone else have an obsession with yellow and gray? I have wanted to do a room in that color scheme pretty much since I starting using Pinterest a year ago. I haven’t really had a room to do this in until I decided the master bedroom was in desperate need of a makeover!  You can find my plans for how to attack this train wreck of a room here.

I had not originally planned on painting the room and was trying to figure out what looks good with pale green (current wall color). My husband was the one who made the point that if I’m already going to put this amount of time into it that I may as well paint the walls and be able to choose the color scheme I wanted. That was all the convincing I needed! Yellow and gray it is!!

Yesterday I posted a tutorial on how to make a blanket out of two flat sheets and some batting. I used this same method for my own blanket. You can find that tutorial here.

My friend Miranda and I did this king size blanket in about 2 hours total – and that was with our 4 little maniacs running around the whole time! Here are some pictures of the process.

Here is what the finished product looks like on our bed.

Here is a zoomed in picture of what the frilly things look like. These are to keep the batting from falling to the bottom of the blanket!

So here is the original list of what needs to be done in the bedroom. I can officially cross one thing off! (these are in no particular order)

Replace hideous mini blinds with roman shades and/or sheer panels

2. Make a new bedspread out of 2 flat king size sheets and batting

3. Sand, prime and paint the night stands and vanity table to be white and distressed

4. Add a bamboo rug under the bed

5. Stencil and sew some monogrammed pillows to add a personal touch

6. Replace wall art with some new paintings and/or signs

7. Reupholster headboard

8. Take down blue Christmas lights……..what the heck was I ever thinking?

*Update* I will also be painting the walls gray

I think the blanket looks great with the pattern side up! And if you paint the walls gray, it will blend with the gray in the blanket and make the yellow pop. Everything looks awesome! I can’t wait to read more!

Thanks Meghan! I plan on painting the walls on Friday since Jake has off work! I can’t wait to see how the bedding looks with the new wall color! : )

Meghan, I love this idea! I am seriously considering giving this a shot, but I’m slightly unsure how to do the ‘frilly things’ Do you go through the entire blanket with the yarn?

Hey Julia! I’m sorry if I didn’t explain the “frilly things very well”! Basically just put the yarn through the eye of a needle (no need to knot) and go down and back up through the fabric right next to where you went down. You can cut it from here and tie a double knot or you can go on to the next one without cutting. We did ours every 12 or so inches but it’s up to you how many you make. You can cut and tie them all at the same time which makes it go faster. I hope that helps!
